Bio:

Dr Penny Pullan is one of the world’s leading experts on running effective workshops and a pioneer of virtual/hybrid leadership. She’s the author of the newly released: ‘Making Workshops Work: Creative Collaboration for Our Time’, published this year by PIP, which her tutorial is based upon. Penny also wrote the bestseller and CEO Today Top 5 book for lockdown: ‘Virtual Leadership: Practical Strategies for Getting the Best Out of Virtual Work and Virtual Teams’. She works with leaders and teams who are grappling with the challenges of our virtual and hybrid world, to enhance collaboration and effectiveness across dispersed teams. Clients say: ‘Penny’s virtual leadership ideas are easy to implement and have transformed my effectiveness and that of my team.’

Penny’s experience of virtual and hybrid teams began when 9/11 forced her to run a major programme virtually. Through this sudden, unplanned immersion in virtual work, Penny showed that virtual and hybrid workshops could work for global programmes for Mars Incorporated. Later Penny founded Making Projects Work Ltd, where she mentors individuals, runs masterclasses and advises project and leadership teams on her Virtual Leadership model, tools and techniques.

Other writing includes co-authoring: ‘Managing Successful Programmes’ (TSO, 2020), co-editing ‘Business Analysis and Leadership: Influencing change’ (Kogan Page 2013) and co-authoring ‘A Short Guide to Facilitating Risk Management’ (Gower, 2011). Penny is frequently asked for articles and has been invited to appear on national TV and radio.

To complement her workshop and hybrid/virtual leadership expertise, Penny has pioneered the use of simple visuals for communication. These hand-drawn graphics provide clarity, engagement and holistic overviews.

Penny is certified as a Master Facilitator (amongst other things!) and her PhD (in nanotechnology) is from Cambridge University. She tweets at @pennypullan
